Animal Watercolors, Summer 2013

This was a small series of watercolor animals I did over the summer. I kept seeing bunnies running around at night in Northampton so I decided to draw and paint one. Then I felt like doing a spider, google searched a reference image, and then right after finishing it, these spiders started showing up on my deck! (They're called Orb Weavers) And lastly it was summertime, so Cancer was in the zodiac, and I made a crab. (The stars in the sky are a rough representation of the Cancer constellation.)
These were all done on Bristol paper (9x12 Strathmore 300 series, smooth), penciled first, then inked with a brush tip permanent marker (Prismacolor Premier). Then I colored them with watercolor markers (Crayola Supertips) along the edges of lines, and used a small wet brush to pull the color out and paint around with it. Finally, I photographed them and did a bit of processing in Photoshop to adjust the contrast and give them borders.
