West Springfield: Bear Hole 6/23/14

Map of Location:

On this day some friends showed me around the Bear Hole Reservoir area in West Springfield. We parked at a cell phone tower at the end of a trail, right near the 1 on the map. (We got to the trail at the end of Morgan Road, in West Springfield.) This is a picture of the tower, followed by a really goofy looking one I tried to take using the panorama feature on the iPhone to go vertical and get the entire tower in one shot.

Then we walked a bit to location 3 where the trail goes under the pike and took a look at all the graffiti that is there. (Side note, since our trip there, one of my friends told me he got chased out by cops on ATVs. I don't remember seeing any "no trespassing" signs, but if you plan to come here be aware that it may not be legal.)

Then we decided to climb up to the pike and take some pictures of it. In the second shot you can see the cell phone tower we parked at.

On the way to location 2 there is an old building foundation thing that has this masterpiece on it! This is definitely my favorite of all the different works in the area.

But the nearby owl and juicebox were really cool too.

Also, the big quarry is right behind the foundation where these paintings are, and here is a picture of that; you can see the antennas from Mt Provin in the distance, which is basically right on the town lines of Westfield, Southwick and Agawam.

Then on to location 2 there is a billboard that you can walk right up to.

So after seeing all those things we walked back to the car and drove to a new spot to get to a different trail for a more nature themed adventure. (The new parking spot was at Great Plains Road, which comes off of Morgan just south of where Morgan goes under the Pike.) So we walked down this path and right near location 4 on the map is this waterfall area.

Finally we made it to the bottom of the reservoir at location 5 and walked out on a little cement bridge/dam thing.

It was a great day, many thanks to Bert and May for being my tour guides!
